Why I love Apple Pops

Apple Pops are such a great simple treat to make for the holidays! All you need is a large apple, popsicle sticks, chocolate, and your favorite toppings! To make this the perfect Valentine’s Day dessert, all you need are some heart cutters and pink or red toppings!

Ingredients & Accessories

Large apple: Typically I use Fuji or Gala apples, but really any larger apple works!

Popsicle sticks: I just use simple wooden popsicle sticks such as these

Chocolate: For these pops, I used white chocolate and dyed some of it pink with natural colorant. You can use any chocolate, but I love how the ifiProvisions chocolate melts, so that is what I typically use. I have a 15% off discount (HEALTHYHOLME) if you want to try!

Cutters: I used a heart cookie cutter from my set of Wilton cookie cutters and a small heart vegetable cutter to remove the inner hearts.

Toppings: See below for a variety of ideas!

Heart Apple Pop Topping Ideas for Valentine's Day

After dipping the apple pop in chocolate, here are some ideas for toppings:

  • Natural sprinkles
  • Coconut
  • Coconut dyed pink (I add coconut and natural colorant to a plastic bag and mix together)
  • Red/pink dried fruits (strawberries, cranberries, goji berries, etc)
  • Drizzled chocolate in a different color (freeze the apple pop first, and then once the chocolate has hardened, drizzle on the chocolate)

Storage Tips

As long as the cut part of the apple is completely covered with chocolate, these can be kept in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week and in the freezer for up to 1 month.

FAQs

My chocolate is too thick, what can I do?

If your chocolate is too thick, I recommend adding a 1/2 tsp of coconut oil to thin it out.

My chocolate won’t stick to the apples, what should I do?

Pat your apples dry and make sure your chocolate isn’t too thick. Some brands of chocolate seem to not dip as well. If you patted the apple dry and the chocolate is thin and you’re still not having success, you may need to lay the apple flat and spoon the chocolate on top of the apple slice, freeze for 2 minutes, flip and spoon chocolate onto the other side of the apple, freeze again.

Keyword: gluten-free
Servings: 4 apple pops

Ingredients

  • 1 apple
  • 1 cup white chocolate melted
  • red or pink food dye optional
  • toppings see ideas above

Instructions

  • Cut the apple into 2 slices, about 1/2 inch thick, to the left and right of the core. You should have 4 apple slices to make into pops.
  • For the larger slices (the ones closer to the core), use a small heart cutter to cut out a heart in the middle of the apple slice. This is also helpful if there are seeds. For the smaller slices, cut them into a heart using the cookie cutter.
  • Use a knife to make a small slit in the bottom of each apple slice. Insert a popsicle stick into the slit, being careful not to push through the cutout.
  • Dip the apple pops into the melted chocolate. I find it easiest to melt the chocolate in a mug about the width of the apple. I use a spoon to help get the chocolate all over the apple.
  • Lay the apple pop on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and add toppings, if desired.

Notes

These can be stored in an airtight container up to 1 week in the fridge and up to 1 month in the freezer.
