Easy Ghost Hot Dogs for Halloween | Kid-Friendly Halloween Food

3 Mins read

These spooky Ghost Hot Dogs are the easiest Halloween lunch or party food! Hot dogs are wrapped in biscuit dough, shaped into little ghosts, and baked until golden and fluffy. A simple straw creates the ghostly eyes and mouth, making these adorable for Halloween parties, school lunches, or a fun Halloween dinner with the kids.

They look like you spent way more time making them than you actually did!

Why You Will Love These Ghost Hot Dogs

  • So easy to make — no special Halloween molds or cutters needed!
  • Only a few ingredients
  • Kid-friendly and fun to make together
  • Perfect for Halloween parties
  • Ready in about 20 minutes, depending on your biscuit dough package

Tips for Making the Best Ghost Hot Dogs

Don’t wrap the dough too tightly. Leave some extra dough around the bottom so it can spread out and create the little ghost “body.”

Make the mouth larger than the eyes. Using a slightly larger straw for the mouth works perfectly, or you can pull the dough apart slightly for the mouth if you only have one size straw.

Don’t worry about perfection! Some ghosts may stand taller, some may be wider, and some may have slightly different faces. That’s what makes them cute!

Cut the hot dogs so that they stand flat. You may need to cut a tiny bit off of the end to make sure the end is flat and the ghost can stand upright.

FAQs

Can I use any type of hot dog?

Yes! Use your favorite hot dogs, including beef, turkey, chicken, or a gluten-free variety. Just keep in mind that larger hot dogs may need a little more biscuit dough.

Can I make these Ghost Hot Dogs gluten-free?

Simply use your favorite gluten-free biscuit dough and gluten-free hot dogs. Follow the baking instructions on the biscuit dough package.

Can I make these ahead of time?

These are best served warm, but you can assemble them ahead of time and keep them refrigerated until you’re ready to bake. Bake according to the biscuit dough package instructions.

What can I use if I don’t have a straw?

A small round piping tip or another small kitchen tool can work in a pinch. You just need something small enough to create the ghost’s eyes and mouth.

Why did my ghost faces disappear while baking?

Biscuit dough expands in the oven, so small holes can shrink as the dough bakes. Try making the eyes and mouth slightly larger than you think you’ll need them to be.

Can kids help make these?

Absolutely! Kids can help place the biscuit dough over the hot dogs and create the ghost faces. It’s a fun and easy Halloween recipe to make together.

Ghost Hot Dogs

These easy Ghost Hot Dogs are the cutest Halloween food! Made with hot dogs and biscuit dough, they're simple, spooky, and ready in minutes.
Prep Time5 minutes
Cook Time15 minutes
Total Time20 minutes
Course: Appetizer, Main Course, Snack
Cuisine: American
Keyword: halloween
Servings: 8 mini hot dogs

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs
  • 1 package refrigerated biscuit dough
  • Optional: ketchup or mustard for dipping
  • Straw s for making faces

Instructions

Cut the hot dogs

  • Cut each hot dog in half, giving you 8 pieces.

Prepare the biscuit dough

  • Roll out the biscuit dough and cut it into 8 rectangles. You want each piece of dough to be large enough to drape over one piece of hot dog.

Make the ghosts

  • Place one rectangle of biscuit dough over each piece of hot dog. Gently shape the dough around the hot dog so that it resembles a little ghost. Don't worry about making them perfect—the more imperfect, the more character they have!

Add the faces

  • Use a straw to gently poke two eyes and one larger opening for the mouth in each ghost. I love using a straw because it makes perfectly round little ghost faces without needing any special tools.

Bake

  • Place the ghosts on a baking sheet and bake according to the biscuit dough package instructions, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving.
