Homemade Elderberry Syrup Recipe (Immune-Boosting & Easy)

2 Mins read

If you’re looking for a natural way to support your immune system, homemade elderberry syrup is a must-have. This simple recipe uses dried organic elderberries, honey, ginger, and cinnamon for a soothing, antioxidant-rich syrup you can enjoy daily. Unlike store-bought versions, this syrup is budget-friendly, customizable, and free from refined sugar and preservatives.

Why Make Elderberry Syrup at Home?

Elderberries have been used for centuries as a natural remedy to help fight colds, flu, and seasonal sniffles. They’re packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and flavonoids that support immune health. When combined with warming spices like ginger and cinnamon, elderberry syrup becomes a comforting and health-boosting tonic.

Making elderberry syrup at home is so much cheaper than buying already made bottles, which is what made me start making my own. For how much money we saved and how simple it was to make, it was a no-brainer!

Plus, making it at home means you know exactly what’s in it—and you can adjust sweetness to your liking.

Elderberry Syrup Ingredients & Benefits

  • Dried Organic Elderberries: Rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, and fiber. Known for immune-boosting and antiviral properties. I purchased these off of Amazon.

  • Purified Water: Keeps the syrup clean, pure, and hydrating.

  • Dried Ginger: Naturally anti-inflammatory and helps soothe digestion and sore throats.

  • Cinnamon Stick: Adds flavor while supporting blood sugar balance and circulation.

  • Raw Honey: Many people stir in raw honey after cooling for natural sweetness and additional antibacterial benefits.

Elderberry Syrup FAQs

How much elderberry syrup should I take daily?
Most adults take 1–2 tablespoons daily for immune support. For children, 1–2 teaspoons is common (always check with your pediatrician first).

Can I use fresh elderberries instead of dried?
Yes! Just double the amount of fresh elderberries and follow the same method.

Is elderberry syrup safe for kids?
Elderberry syrup is generally safe for children over 1 year old (especially if sweetened with honey, which should never be given to babies under 1).

Can I make it without honey?
Yes! Just skip the honey for a refined-sugar-free, unsweetened version.
